According to the latest report from Doctor Web, a cybersecurity company, malware attacking Android-based mobile devices increased dramatically in October 2023.

So, the number of attacks from advertising Trojans of the Android family increased by 46%.HiddenAds that display intrusive ads to users. These Trojans often disguise themselves as harmless applications and hide their presence in the system.

In addition, experts recorded an increase in the number of attacks from spyware and banking Trojans — by 18% and 11%, respectively. These Trojans collect and transmit sensitive user data, including financial information, to attackers.

Malicious programs that are distributed directly through the official Google Play app store are particularly dangerous. According to Doctor Web analysts, dozens of dangerous applications were discovered there.

In particular, several Trojans of the Android family were identified.Proxy.4gproxy, which turn infected devices into proxy servers and use them to transmit third-party traffic without the owners knowledge. These Trojans disguised themselves as various useful applications, including games and utilities.

New modifications of the well-known Android Trojan were also found in Google Play.FakeApp. Under the guise of financial applications, they uploaded phishing sites to their devices that offered to invest in fraudulent financial schemes.

Other versions of this Trojan pretended to be games, but after they were launched, the sites of online casinos and bookmakers were opened.

In addition, new Trojans were discovered that allegedly help owners of Android devices find a job. In fact, they show fake vacancies, and when the user tries to respond, they ask them to contact the "employer" via messenger, where the victim can also be forced to install additional malware or disclose more confidential data about themselves.

To protect against all these and other threats, experts recommend that users install reliable antivirus solutions and exercise increased vigilance, even when installing applications from official stores.
