Nearly 110,000 online stores still use outdated Magento 1.x versions

Visa, Mastercard and Adobe have urged online store owners to update their Magento platforms as Magento 1.x reaches its End of Life (EOL) on June 30. Stores that have not been updated to the latest 2.x branch and are still using Magento 1.x versions will become vulnerable to attacks from cybercriminals, ZDNet reported.

According to the Mastercard Account Data Compromise (ADC) team, which is responsible for investigating cyber incidents with payment card data, in recent years, cases of web-skimming have become more frequent. Most of them were associated with websites using older versions of Magento software. According to Mastercard, 77% of companies affected by such incidents did not comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which requires the use of modern software.

Like Mastercard, Visa also warned store owners to update to the latest version of Magento 2.3.x in order to avoid potential attacks.
On June 22, Magento platform company Adobe released the latest security updates for Magento 1.x branch.

According to information security firm SanSec, currently about 110 thousand stores are still using the Magento 1.x branch and only 37.5 thousand stores have been updated to new versions.
