Ukrainian and European law enforcement officers conducted searches at the home of entrepreneur Bogdan Prilepa, who is suspected of fraud in order to appropriate the assets of users of the Coinsbit exchange and other trading platforms. This was reported by the StopKor portal with reference to sources in law enforcement agencies.

According to them, in December 2023, a group of technical specialists led by Prilepa took away all access to the system from the former co-owner of the companies, blocked user wallets with balances from $300 to $30,000, and then appropriated the funds on them in the amount of more than a billion hryvnias (~$24.2 million).

After February 2022, Prilepa was in Dubai, where he partially moved the technical staff of the IT structures under his control, the portal reports.

According to StopKor insider information, during this period, the businessman began cooperation with criminal authorities from the Russian Federation associated with the FSB. Witnesses from among the employees of the Prilepa exchanges reported that part of the stolen money was allegedly intended for the purchase of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The investigation continues with the participation of law enforcement officers of Ukraine, the UAE and European countries.

Prilepa specializes in launching various startups in the field of cryptocurrencies. In 2018, he served as CTO of the Coinsbit exchange. He also worked as CEO on the Qmall and C-Patex platforms.

Recall that in August 2023, the NBU requested financial statements from Ukrainian banks on interaction with a number of cryptocurrency companies and non-bank payment services.

In particular, the regulator became interested in banking operations related to the Kuna and Qmall exchanges, as well as the CoinPay and GEO Pay payment services.

Banks were requested to provide reports on the risk scoring of interaction with these platforms, the ID and name of the acquirer, as well as questionnaires of the owners of the listed crypto companies.
