About one-third of American consumers view biometrics as an effective security solution.
According to a Unisys study that surveyed 11,244 respondents in 12 countries, users are concerned about cybersecurity in several industries in the United States, including retail, government and telecommunications.
Consumer perceptions of the effectiveness of biometric security have shown mixed results. About 1/3 of American users believe that biometrics is the best solution for protecting against fraud. About the same number of people consider biometrics to be not the most effective protection.
The study also found that consumers are ambivalent about the use of biometrics to protect smartphone data. Only 38% of respondents believe that this solution will help protect the security of their mobile devices. In addition, men are more likely to use biometric security on their devices than women.
39% of consumers also have concerns about unauthorized access to personal data held by US government agencies. Perhaps this is due to recent high-profile security breaches.
As previously reported, banks have begun to actively implement biometric user identification solutions in their mobile banking applications, which will improve the interface and increase the security of transactions.
