Officers of the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Mordovia stopped the illegal activities of a 38-year-old resident of Saransk, involved in the registration and sale of more than 30 electronic wallets registered using someone else's passport data.

As the police established, in 2022, the detainee registered on one of the Internet sites for the purpose of additional earnings. There he was interested in the offer of the possibility of making a profit from the sale of electronic wallets.

Later, the man found on the Internet the passport data of citizens living in various regions, which he sent through a messenger to an unidentified person for registration and purchase of mobile numbers in their names. Having received a parcel with SIM cards through a transport company, the defendant linked several online wallets to them, and then posted ads for their sale. The amount ranged from one to two thousand rubles.

The buyer responded to the message, who decided to purchase electronic means of payment. For a reward of about 50 thousand rubles, the attacker sent him logins and passwords from accounts, as well as passport data linked to wallets.

At present, investigators of the investigative unit of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Mordovia have initiated criminal cases on 32 episodes of crimes under Part 1 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the deed in full. At the request of the investigator, the detainee was chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The police are conducting a set of necessary operational-search measures and investigative actions aimed at establishing additional episodes of illegal activities of the offender and accomplices in crimes.
