A resident of the Kobrin district is accused of financing extremist activities and using malicious computer programs. This was reported by BelTA with reference to Roman Zarmaev, official representative of the Investigative Committee's office for the Brest Region.

The defendant in the criminal case was a 36-year-old man. Investigators found out that in August 2020, he succumbed to calls from destructive Internet resources to raise money to support those detained for participating in street riots. The accused transferred $60 to the account of an extremist group that aimed to seize power and justify street crime. In addition, in March 2023, a man activated malicious programs on his computer that provoked DDoS attacks on various Internet resources.

Law enforcement officers found out the identity of the attacker and detained him. "When examining his computer equipment and smartphone, digital traces of crimes were found: information about money transfers and malware files. During the investigation, the man repented of what he had done and confessed. Wanting to make up for the damage caused as a result of financing extremist activities, he transferred Br2 thousand to the charity account of a specialized general education boarding school," Roman Zarmaev said.

A resident of the Kobrin district was charged under Article 361-2 (financing the activities of an extremist group) and Part 1 of Article 354 (use of malicious computer programs) of the Criminal Code. With the approval of the prosecutor, he was taken into custody.
