The specialized investigative department for the investigation of crimes committed using information and telecommunication technologies, the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Samara, has completed the investigation of a criminal case initiated against a man born in 1996, who is accused of unlawful access to computer information and theft of funds from a bank account. accounts.
During the preliminary investigation, it was established that the accused arrived in the Samara region in September 2021 and rented an apartment in the Samara district of the regional center. No later than October of the same year, he illegally acquired the subscriber database of one of the telecommunications companies. Using the information received, using a login and password, he illegally gained access to the personal account of the communication user. Investigators, together with employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Samara Region, established that after this the man changed information about the format of the SIM card used by the subscriber from plastic to virtual. Generating a new electronic SIM card took less than three minutes. In two cases, he was able to use banking applications to gain access to citizens’ accounts and transfer funds to an electronic wallet or purchase goods in online stores.
Residents of 15 regions, including Bryansk, Volgograd, Leningrad, Moscow and Samara regions, became victims of criminal acts. In total, 27 people aged from 27 to 67 years were injured, two of them had money stolen for a total amount of more than 210,000 rubles.
A previously convicted man was charged with committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal access to computer information” (27 episodes) and clause “d”, part 3 of art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft from a bank account” (2 episodes). At the moment, criminal cases have been combined into one proceeding and, with an approved indictment, sent to court for consideration on the merits.
