Hackers severely restricted the work of state institutions.

Georgia's most populous county, Fulton, with more than 1 million residents, faced a massive information system outage due to a cyberattack that occurred over the weekend.

The County Board of Commissioners announced that the attack affected the phone systems of institutions and online operations, including the issuance of gun licenses and weddings. The Council added that the incident is being actively investigated by law enforcement agencies.

It is noted that the investigation is at an early stage, so now the authorities of Fulton County can provide limited information. The cyberattack affected a number of major technology platforms – the telephone system, the judicial system, and the tax system. The district authorities cannot yet name a specific time frame for restoring services.

The FBI told local media that it is taking part in the investigation of the attack. A notice is posted on the county's website encouraging residents to contact Fulton Customer Service by email due to a phone system outage.

Most of the Fulton County offices are open, but the tax commissioner wasn't working on Monday. Many other institutions operate in a limited mode while the IT department deals with troubleshooting issues. Public computers in the county's libraries were closed on Monday, but they have continued working since Tuesday. Local TV channels report that residents faced massive problems when they came to challenge property taxes or visited automobile inspections.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
