A criminal case has been opened in the Astrakhan region against the system administrator of a medical institution who passed information about the deceased to third parties, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reports.
According to investigators, the suspect, being a system administrator of the technical and software department of the medical institution, connected to the departmental information and analytical system using a VPN service and took possession of personal data of patients of medical organizations in the Astrakhan region.
"Having access to an array of data for several years, he took possession of information about the deceased and, using a program for remote access to the service, gave information about the deceased to third parties for a monthly monetary reward," the press center said.
According to preliminary data, the information was passed on to entrepreneurs in the field of funeral services. The illegal activity of the sysadmin was stopped by operatives of the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Astrakhan region, together with colleagues from the regional FSB Department.
