The Moskovsky District court of Minsk has sentenced five telephone fraudsters to terms ranging from 6 to 9 years in a penal colony, BelTA learned from the Minsk city Prosecutor's Office.

All the defendants were found guilty of fraud and theft of property by modifying computer information, and one of them was also found guilty of robbery. In addition to the penalty of imprisonment, everyone must pay a fine in the amount of 40 BV (for a minor) up to 1 thousand rubles. BV (1BV - Br37).

The court found that members of the organized group called victims, including via Viber, introduced themselves as bank employees and, under the pretext of preventing money theft, lured out bank card details. The money was transferred to bank cards provided by the defendants. Transfers of funds to accounts held by the accused were also made by the victims themselves. After that, the money was cashed out at ATMs, distributed, and one of the accused transferred it to cryptocurrency.

In total, from December 2020 to June 2021, the accused seized the money of 246 victims.

As for the robbery, one of the defendants - a minor member of an organized group-in April 2021 stole things worth more than Br70 from the store.

The verdict has not entered into legal force, and it can be appealed and challenged on appeal.
