At the end of June, the Internal Security Bureau sent a criminal case against three officials of the State Border Guard of the Latgale region to the Prosecutor's Office. As the investigation found, the three border guards actually worked part-time as "money mules" - they handed over their accounts to criminals.

During the investigation, the BIB found that the border guards, "motivated by selfish motives, agreed to the proposal to transfer access rights to the accounts of credit organizations and payment systems belonging to them to unknown persons, which allowed them to illegally use payment funds."

But that's not all. The Bureau has received evidence that State Border Guard officers knowingly provided false information to a legal entity authorized by law to request information about the transaction and the true owner or true beneficiary of the funds or other property involved in it.
