The Pwn2Own hacking competition will take place in Cork, Ireland in the fall of 2024. Meta Corporation (whose activities are considered extremist and banned in Russia) has joined as a sponsor and is offering $300,000 for a 0-click exploit that breaks through WhatsApp.

According to a notice from Trend Micro, Pwn2Own will take place from October 22 to 25, 2024. WhatsApp is the only app currently listed in the messenger category.

By comparison, Zerodium is offering up to $1 million for a WhatsApp exploit that allows remote code execution and local privilege escalation, while 0-click is valued at up to $1.5 million.

The Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 smartphones will also be worth attention at Pwn2Own: for exploits capable of penetrating these devices, specialists are offered up to $250,000 (and $300,000 if they managed to gain access at the kernel level).

Samsung Galaxy S24 devices can win a maximum prize of $50,000.

Exploits for vulnerabilities in HP, Lexmark, and Canon printers will cost a maximum of $20,000. For Sonos, Google , and Amazon smart speakers , $60,000.

Let us recall that this month Russians noticed a slowdown in WhatsApp. This information was confirmed by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma for information policy.
