They probably failed to card the giftcode. Many times when you card Amazon incorrectly, they let you have 30 minutes or so, then they will block your account. I've seen this happen a few times, I don't know if it is the same for you.

If you mean spreading malware via auction sites such as Craigslist, not many people do it. It is more worthwhile to pull off scams, since they are not flagged and ghosted as quickly as spam/malware.
