Mobile network and Wi-Fi are not needed when there are satellites.

All of us have repeatedly encountered an annoying situation when the connection on the smartphone disappears just at the moment when it is vital. If you are late and can't notify your boss about it, you get lost without navigator prompts — this is a common nuisance. Fortunately, it looks like the era of "blind spots" may soon come to an end thanks to a new technology that the Google team is working on.

According to the software code found in the beta version of the Google Messages app, it will soon be connected to satellite networks, which will allow you to stay connected even outside the range of mobile communications and Wi-Fi.

Although you will have to stop sending photos and videos for now, users will be able to exchange text messages not only with their loved ones, but also with emergency services if necessary. However, the speed of delivery of messages via satellites will be lower compared to conventional channels.

Apparently, the feature will become available to all Android users after the annual update of the operating system. Developers who are already testing Android 15 report that the "Automatically connected to satellite" notification will be displayed on users screens. Google is probably already in talks with satellite carriers like T-Mobile or Starlink.

The introduction of satellite communications could be Google's response to a similar service launched by Apple last year for the iPhone 14 Pro line. It is not yet known whether the company really feels pressure from a competitor, but the very fact of developing such an advanced technology is not in doubt.

However, there is still a lot of work and testing to be done before the solution is fully implemented.
