New rules for banks: the ministry tightens control over money transfers.

The Russian Interior Ministry has proposed a draft law requiring banks and credit institutions to provide information requested by law enforcement agencies within up to three business days. If this is technically possible, the information should be provided within one day. This was reported to TASS in the press center of the Russian Interior Ministry.

A new draft law developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs amends Article 21 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, expanding the powers of money transfer operators, electronic money and communication operators.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the new rules will oblige operators to provide the necessary information within the established period, which in some cases can be as little as 24 hours. This applies to requests sent in the form of electronic documents that can be processed by automated systems of operators.

Additionally, the procedure for interaction of money transfer operators, electronic money and communication with interested state bodies will be regulated by new rules established by the Russian government. The Bank of Russia, credit organizations authorized to conduct money transfers, and the State Development Corporation VEB.RF act as telecom operators.
