He received a call on behalf of the director of the Russian Association of Heroes.

According to sources, 65-year-old Lieutenant General Nikolai Gavrilov received a call on February 10. The fraudster introduced himself as the director of the Association of Heroes of the Russian Federation and told Gavrilov that his savings were under threat. Then the lieutenant General was transferred to the FSB, where he previously served, and to employees of the Central Bank.

Scammers convinced Gavrilov to withdraw one and a half million rubles from his Sberbank account and deposit them in a secure account via an ATM. They completed the entire scheme in four days. On February 14, Gavrilov realized that he had been deceived and contacted the police.

In early February, fraudsters managed to get 50 million rubles from another general — the former head of the Financial Service of the Central Office of the USSR Ministry of Defense Anatoly Mirenkov and his wife. They handed money to couriers right outside the Prosecutor General's Office and the Embassy of Madagascar.
