The Presnensky District Court of Moscow remanded in custody for 1 month and 28 days a group of people accused of committing fraud on a particularly large scale through the Telegram messenger in relation to elderly citizens in the capital, the press service of the court reported.
Yevgeny Borisov, Artyom Kachkovsky, Yegor Belyakin and Denis Moiseyev were charged with committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale).
According to investigators, unidentified persons made phone calls via the Telegram messenger. They presented themselves as employees of the Security Service of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and informed the elderly person that criminal actions were being committed against him, to prevent which it was necessary to cash out funds and transfer them to the FSB representative for subsequent transfer of funds to the Security Service of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to ensure the security of financial assets. The defendants acted as couriers to receive funds totaling almost 50 million rubles, the court's press service said.
