Over the past few decades, e-commerce has become an integral part of the shopping industry, and online shopping has entered the daily lives of most consumers in many countries around the world. Even in Ukraine, not a single serious business can be imagined without electronic support in the form of online stores or selling sites, and some merchants are completely switching to a more economical and convenient virtual format.

To organize online commerce, you definitely need tools that would allow you to pay for the purchased product online, thereby making the purchase process as comfortable as possible for both the client and the seller. For this purpose, electronic payment systems have been created that allow making payments on the site in a few "clicks". Thanks to payment services, the buyer has the opportunity to immediately pay for the purchased goods, without looking up from the monitor, and the seller can quickly receive funds to the current account.

What is an electronic payment system

Representing a family of non-cash payment systems, a modern electronic service for paying for online purchases is a complex combined product based on a set of technical infrastructure, procedural operations, and operating rules.

Generated into a single integral system, these elements provide the ability to transfer funds from one entity to another in a non-cash format. In this case, online payment transactions go through the Internet. Such payment systems allow you to make online purchases and pay for goods and services using bank cards, electronic money or other payment instruments.

Ukrainian users today have access to many payment services and aggregators that allow working with different financial instruments, increasing the conversion of the virtual trading platform and the competitiveness of the selling site. One of the most popular is the payment aggregator "Interkassa", which covers more than fifty payment services and five currency zones, and also provides flexible customization of the interface and a high degree of transaction security.

Working algorithm of payment services

The process of operation of each payment gateway has a two-vector direction, focused, on the one hand, at the buyer, and on the other, at the seller. For the client, the algorithm for using the payment system is as follows:
  • selection of goods in the presented online catalog and the formation of a virtual basket;
  • choosing a payment method and switching to a secure payment page of the payment acceptance service;
  • input of payment details and confirmation with the "Pay" button.

As for the online store, it is involved in the process of accepting payment at the moment when the client paid for the goods. The standard scheme of a merchant's work with a payment service also includes several key stages:
  • monitoring by the seller of payment transactions in the personal account of the accounting system for the receipt of an order;
  • when an order appears, clarification with the buyer (mainly by telephone) of the specifics and delivery times of the ordered goods;
  • receipt of money to the settlement account of the selling party (takes 1-3 days).

The details of connecting an online store to a specific payment service may differ. Nevertheless, the standard procedure for connecting to an electronic payment system - especially when it comes to a reliable and serious partner - requires a lot of time and resources. Often, a bilateral agreement is concluded between the parties and documents are presented confirming the legality of the companies' business. From a technical point of view, service integration, as a rule, is not overly complicated, especially since some systems, in particular, the Interkassa payment aggregator, offer customers special modules for online payments, which even a programmer cannot manage to install.
