During the" processing " of the victim, the scammers sent her a fake ID in the WhatsApp application, which was supposed to confirm that it was the police officer who was talking to her (see photo). And the woman believed it.

As a result, the scammers managed to convince the woman that illegal actions were being committed with her bank accounts - and in order for the money to be safe, you need to install the Anydesk application. Further, the woman confirmed the details and PIN codes of the bank user, and as a result, the fraudsters withdrew about 150,000 euros from her work accounts. At the same time, almost two thousand euros were "left" from her personal account.

The scammers also convinced the woman to send them cash in order to keep it safe. As a result, the woman took 10,000 euros to pacomat for shipment.

The State Police launched a criminal investigation into the incident.

How scammers make millions

In 2023, 1,568 victims of financial fraud applied to the State Police of Latvia, from whom a total of more than 8.5 million euros were stolen.

In turn, according to information collected by the Latvian Financial Industry Association, 12.7 million euros were stolen from customers of the four largest Latvian banks last year, and the victims themselves confirmed these payments.

According to the State Police, in 2023, the population was most affected by phone calls from fraudsters.
In this way, more than 800 people were deceived, and a total of about 4.5 million Heb were deprived.;

About 3.4 million euros were stolen as a result of "investments" - fraudsters persuaded to invest in "profitable projects";

Almost half a million euros were stolen through fake emails and messages.

Scammers are well versed in the psychology of people and are able to exploit their weaknesses, - emphasize the representatives of the police. They intimidate and force people to make decisions in a hurry, threatening that if their instructions are not followed - and urgently-the money will be lost. So the person does not have time to think and evaluate the situation.

During a conversation, people try to evoke strong emotions, including fears, so that together with them the person's ability to rationally assess the situation decreases.
