DIY enthusiast Billy Chung was able to assemble a detector radio using a chip from a credit card. Typically, a diode is used as a detector in a design.

Replacing the diode became possible due to the fact that modern smart chips already contain this element. To create a radio, you just need to connect the necessary pads on your credit card to the rest of the radio channel.

The craftsman used credit cards as other structural elements. He cut the cards when making the coils to get a variable inductor for tuning the radio. Turning the dial allows you to tune in radio stations, and when a high impedance headphone is connected, you can listen to AM radio.

Billy reveals the details of his idea to anyone who wants to rebuild.

Cutting templates and other details are available on Github.
