Software developer Michael Altfield has created a USB cable that erases all data from your Linux laptop if the device is stolen in a public place: in a park, mall or internet cafe.

The idea behind the BusKill cable is that you connect one end to your laptop and the other to your belt.

If someone tries to grab your device, the cable will be disconnected, after which a udev script will run, which will perform a series of operations. In this case, the user can customize the action of the script at his own discretion.

For example, you can lock the laptop screen when you unplug the cable, or turn off the laptop completely. But there are more sophisticated measures - to configure the script in such a way that individual directories or absolutely all data are instantly destroyed.
