Generative features, voice control, and a personalized approach – what else will Microsoft enjoy?
Microsoft announced the launch of the Windows 11 update, which includes a number of improvements and new built-in features. Among the new features are enhanced Copilot capabilities, new AI functions in the Photos and Clips app, improved voice control of the system, changes in the window pinning system, widgets, and much more.
The update is available starting today, but not all features will be activated immediately. New Copilot options will start rolling out at the end of March, allowing you to enable battery-saving mode, for example, or launch accessibility features like "Screen Announcer" or "Screen Magnifier." Copilot will also be able to show available Wi-Fi networks, information about free disk space, and even empty the trash.
For the built-in Photos app, a new Generative Erase feature is introduced, which allows you to remove unwanted objects from photos using artificial intelligence. While the Clipchamp video editor from Microsoft will get the function of removing awkward pauses from the video.
The window pinning feature will also be upgraded with AI capabilities, offering a more personalized approach to the layout of active windows, which will speed up their pinning in a user-friendly format. In addition, users will now be able to disable the news feed in widgets.
For Windows 11 tablets that support the stylus, the latest update includes the ability to write directly in text fields across the entire operating system. This extends to Windows Ink support in apps like Photos, Paint, WhatsApp, and others.
The function of broadcasting content to a nearby display is now also improved. There are notifications with suggestions to use the broadcast function when multitasking and improvements to detect nearby displays and fix connection problems.
The update simplifies content sharing between Windows and Android devices by speeding up data transfer across the same network and allowing devices to be assigned easily recognizable names. In addition, an Android smartphone will soon be able to be used as a webcam in video conferencing applications without external software.
The new Voice Shortcuts feature allows you to create custom commands to automate and quickly complete a number of tasks at once with just one short phrase. These voice commands can help you insert text and media, press keyboard or mouse keys, and open folders, files, apps, or URLs.
Microsoft has already started distributing the update described above, but it may take some time for it to appear on all supported devices.
The company is also adapting to the requirements of the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), offering users the option to remove Cortana and choose a search provider for Windows Search.
