This large-scale update is designed to strengthen Telegram's position as one of the market leaders and compete seriously with WhatsApp.
One of the main features was the long-awaited "Recommended Channels" feature. The system offers users content based on their subscriptions and interests. To view recommendations, just open the search bar and go to the new "Channels" tab.
The "My Profile" section also appeared in the settings, where you can evaluate how your page looks from the outside, and quickly correct your personal data. Now you can share a link to your personal Telegram channel in your profile, which will be visible to all your interlocutors. You can also enter your date of birth here. The app will remind friends, relatives, and colleagues to congratulate you in a notification above the chat list.
Major changes have been made to work with Stories. Users can now pin three of the most relevant posts to the top of their profile page. Restricted content is now marked with a separate icon. And in Telegram Premium, you can activate incognito mode and view any stories unnoticed by the authors.
Group moderators got a lot of useful features to restore order in their communities. Now they can select several messages at once and apply various sanctions to their authors in one fell swoop. In the new menu, you can choose which restrictive measures will affect each of the violators.
Large groups with more than 200 participants now have an anti-spam filter that detects and stops suspicious activity.
Improvements have also been made to the "Recent Activity" section. This section lists the same actions performed by the same moderator in the last 48 hours: deleting, editing messages, and so on. The list also shows discussion titles and corresponding user comments. The developers fixed a bug with text selection when searching in this section — Now the function works correctly, just like in regular chats.
A new useful option for channel owners is to limit the number of different emoji reactions under each post. This will allow you to avoid visual noise and periodically update the set of available reactions, for example, adding themed emoticons for holidays. So under the New Year's posts, Easter cakes and eggs will definitely not appear.
A separate update block is designed for owners of large channels. A program for monetizing content through ad serving has been launched for them, with 50% of revenue allocated to the authors ' account. By the way, Telegram Premium subscribers will be able to turn on ads if they wish, using the "Show ads" option in the "Settings" and "Telegram for Business" menu.
The geolocation sharing function also remains unchanged.
